Birmingham City, Blackburn and Wrexham are involved in a race to sign Reading’s Charlie Savage.

Reading FC midfielder Charlie Savage is getting some serious interest this summer as Birmingham City, Blackburn Rovers, Portsmouth and Wrexham are all said to be interested.

Although Birmingham City won League One with 111 points and broke a world record for promotion, the team is keeping busy and looking for further success. It is anticipated that Manager Chris Davies will bring in new players to help the Reds in the midfield because some loan signings will be leaving at the end of the year. So, it’s not surprising that Savage, at age 22, has become a hot target for many teams.

This season, Savage played for Reading and recorded nine assists which was just one shy of the League One record and earned five goals. Despite failing to make the playoffs, the Welsh player regularly showed his experience and imagination in a team dealing with serious financial issues.

Football Insider says that teams in the Championship and elsewhere are observing what is happening with Savage. There are rumors as well of teams in different countries being interested in the player. Ipso Facto claims that Reading have a €2.4 million rough valuation on Sander Savage.

Born to a former Premier League player, Robbie Savage, Charlie, who began his career at Manchester United, established himself as a key member of Reading’s side last season, taking part in 50 matches in all. The way he approaches his job has not escaped others’ notice.

Many people draw parallels between Savage’s appearance in every match and what Marc Leonard did for Northampton Town during his loan time from Brighton. Even though Leonard hasn’t had much effect on the team since signing with Blues and could leave again on loan, others praise his professional approach and it’s thought that Savage would do the same.

However, persuading Savage to take action might turn out to be a tricky task. The club’s midfielder told BBC Radio Berkshire after Reading’s last game of the season that he intends to be there for the next two seasons.

Considering that several clubs want him, this transfer situation may change a bit before the summer window ends.
